Take a guided walk through the future of that time in Amsterdam-Noord.

Accompanied by a guide, you will walk through the development from garden village to garden city, and from semi-high-rise to high-rise buildings. In Noord, the low-rise buildings from the 1950s are over and high-rise buildings are becoming the standard. We see the first features of what would later become typical of the Bijlmer: large flats in a park-like environment, separation of fast and slow traffic and the unprecedented scale of the system construction.

The 1935 General Expansion Plan gave Noord a very modest place, but after the construction of the Schellingwouder Bridge and the tunnels under the IJ, the district was considered sufficiently accessible and construction began. We had to wait until 2018 for the planned metro, and the previously conceived arched canal around the entire neighborhood never went ahead. In addition, the plans to turn it into a mature urban district with 100,000 inhabitants have been realized.

Around Buikslotermeerplein, we walk from one world to another. We see how developments and ideas about urban planning follow each other in rapid succession.

While North was initially seen as an urban planning mistake, the north side of the IJ has now grown into a mature urban district.
