Rasha Dakkak

Designer

Objects carry stories, in particular the objects that are found in the personal spheres of the home. But what about migration stories? What items do you bring from your country of origin? What do you show? And what exactly is missing? Palestinian designer Rasha Dakkak explores these questions during her residency. In her own childhood, for example, there was almost no talk about their experiences as refugees within the family. The lack of memorabilia in the home where she grew up also revealed a certain fear of exposing the Palestinian identity. These personal experiences have created a fascination at Dakkak for themes such as immigration, feeling at home and the meaning of objects. Nieuw-West has a high population of people with a migrant background. During her residency, Dakkak will look for the objects that are important to these people. In doing so, she honors the diversity, resilience and extraordinary stories of the residents of Nieuw-West.

Rasha Dakkak is a Palestinian graphic designer, researcher and lecturer who is fascinated by the concept of “in between”.
