Future of the Past in Buitenveldert
Take a walk through the future of that time in Buitenveldert.
Accompanied by a guide, you will walk through the spacious and green Garden City of Buitenveldert. Located south of the Ringspoorbaan, it is the last completed part of the original AUP, the 1935 General Expansion Plan. From the start, this chic sister of the Western Garden Cities was intended as a middle class neighborhood, with larger and more luxurious homes than in the neighborhoods in West.
According to urban planner Van Eesteren as well as many residents, Buitenveldert is the most beautiful of the AUP's expansion districts. 'A neighborhood full of character'. Or as Van Eesteren said: “If you really want to know what the AUP is meant to be, you should go see Buitenveldert”.
Look at the map and you'll see the rhythm of lanes and courts. Look at the aerial view and you'll see the rhythm in low-, medium- and high-rise buildings. While walking, we will see how you experience that from the ground. We walk past extraordinary shopping squares, explore the courtyards with their playgrounds, cross the monumental Gijsbrecht van Aemstel Park and see where the A3 national road once had to go. A neighborhood full of character and rhythm.
