Karijn Kakebeeke
In her residency, Karijk Kakebeeke explores the concepts of home and feeling at home in the specific context of Nieuw-West. When is your home a home? And feeling at home, what does that mean? What factors play a role in this? Kakebeeke does this together with the people whose 'home' she will be photographing. Before that, she lives with various families to photograph their daily rituals.
Kakebeeke studied cultural anthropology before ending up in photojournalism. She is fascinated by the consequences of political decisions that can turn individual lives upside down. In doing so, she uses a visual language without frills or scripted reality - the content is intended to be contemplative - where the viewer has to draw her own conclusions.
