Kolenkit neighborhood

Walk with a guide through the Kolenkit neighborhood in Bos en Lommer. As much has been written and published about few post-war neighborhoods as about this part of Amsterdam. What is the history and what is the reason why urban regeneration has been tackled so extensively here? What has changed and what has remained? How did it work out for the residents of the past and those of today?

Experience the resurrection of the neighborhood around the Resurrection Church, popularly known as the Coal Kit. Along the way, hear about the design visions of the different parts of the renewed neighborhood and the architecture that has been applied. Demolition, new construction, renewal and renovation and even restoration. It's all on display. The walk leads past several award-winning buildings and also shows other inventive examples of urban renewal.

Get to know the Kolenkit neighborhood: not only interesting because of its urban plan and architecture, but especially from a cultural and social point of view and its residents and users.

The eventful history of this previously forgotten but now renewed neighborhood was beautifully captured by Felix Rottenberg in the documentary Back to Akbarstraat.
